En este libro se narran historias milenarias del pueblo coca de Mezcala, Jalisco, Mèxico
Los talleres de historia comunitaria Mexcala, comenzaron en 2007 a petición de la asamblea de comuneros. En ese momento la comunidad enfrentaba el desconocimiento estatal como pueblo originario, invasiones, intentos de despojo y privatización. Fue un momento complicado para la comunidad, por lo que se vio la necesidad de fortalecerse desde su propia historia. Desde esos tiempos, se han realizado infinidad de talleres, conversatorios, reuniones para dialogar. Son ya 17 años de formación en comunidad. Ahora, ante el proyecto de la universidad comunitaria Mexcala, existe la necesidad de generar espacios transterritoriales.
Dra. Moreno es historiadora, defensora de derechos humanos y del territorio comunal. Ella obtuvo un doctorado en Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de Guadalajara y es representante de Mezcala del Congreso Nacional Indígena (CNI-CIG). En abril del 2022, Dra. Moreno solicitó refugio en el norte de California después de una campaña represalia por su activismo como defensora de los derechos indígenas del territorio coca en Laguna de Chapala, México.
In the book Tales of the Land the Coca people´s millenary stories are narrated. The stories are the result of community asset mapping projects and oral history projects thar record the memory of Mexcala, Jalisco, Mexico.
The Community Oral Stories Workshops of Mexcala began in 2007 by a community assembly demand of the comuneros. In this moment, as an indigenous and original peoples, the community confronted the negligence of the State. In response, the State ignored invasions, attempts of plunder and privatization of the communal lands by real state barons. It was a complicated moment for the community. In light of this conditions, the community sought to gain strength by way of recording their own History of communal lands and territory. Since then, they have carried out community oral history projects, community dialogues and gatherings. It has been 17 years of community work and participatory action research. All documented in the book Tales of the Land. Now they are launching the Mexcala Community University and the need for generative trans territorial spaces has arisen. They are now in this process.
Dr. Moreno is a Historian and Human Rights and Communal Land Defender. She holds a doctorate in social sciences from the University of Guadalajara and is the representative from Mezcala for the Congreso Nacional Indígena (CNI-CIG). In April 2022, she sought refuge in northern California following retaliation for her work securing Coca land rights in Lake Chapala, Mexico.

En esta platica la Dra. Cora nos compartirá el proyecto de esta escuela comunitaria y las formas en que la universidad publica es un soporte para la lucha del territorio y como la comunidad es lo que hace a la universidad relevante en la atención y solución de problemas y necesidades sociales.
Dr. Jimenez Narcia will share the project of a community school that formed an ecological brigade to care for the water, the axolotl and the land of their town. They will also talk about the importance and relevance of the public university in participating in these efforts. They will talk about the role of the public university in coming up with solutions to the social problems and demands.
Dra. Jimenez Narcia es doctora en Pedagogía por la UNAM. Es profesora de tiempo completo de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras y acompañante de movimientos sociales por la defensa de la vida, el agua y el territorio. Ella realiza investigación acción participativa feminista, prácticas socioeducativas territorializadas, progresiones de aprendizaje y pedagogías del cuidado.
Dr. Jimenez Narcisa holds a doctorate in Pedagogy from UNAM. She is a Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. She is a community organizer and participates in social movements in defense of water, territory and nature. She engages in feminist participatory research, socio-educational and territorialized practices, learning progressions and pedagogies of care.
